What is it and what is it for?
Cytology is a test used to diagnose precursor lesions or cervical cancer. It also detects possible infections caused by bacteria, fungi or viruses, such as the human papillomavirus (HPV), one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases.
Cytology does not hurt, it is a very simple technique that takes 5 minutes.
What does it consist of?
To carry out the cytology, the patient lies on the examination chair. In this way, the gynecologist obtains a sample of the cells from the inside and outside the cervix.
